After sitting out his transfer year in 2011, this player is ready to help make an impact in the USF secondary.

#37 DB Tre Griffin
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'0" 211 lbs.

Stats in 2011: Did not play, as he sat out the season after transferring from the Naval Academy.

Current Spot on Depth Chart: Tre was listed as the backup free safety on the post-spring depth chart.

How did He Come to USF? Before he spent a year in Annapolis, Griffin played high school football at Miramar High School, near Miami. He played for the Patriots' 2009 state title team (where they beat Mark Joyce's DeLand team) and was also a sprinter on Miramar's track and field team.

Recruiting Rankings: It doesn't look like Scout or Rivals rated Griffin in the class of 2010. By the way, if you'd like a laugh, check out how many commits Navy had in 2011. Houston Nutt and Larry Blakeney both think that's a lot of commits.

Projected Playing Time for 2012: Tre should get a little bit of playing time in the defensive backfield, and with his speed I wouldn't be surprised to see him used as a special teams gunner or on the punt block team.
