Stampeding Through the Roster: #21 RB Demetris Murray

Demetris Murray bowls over ND in last season's opener

I'll go ahead and nickname the next Stampeder "Da Meat Thermometer." If he's getting a lot of touches late in the game, you know the game is done.

#21 RB Demetris Murray
5th Year Senior, 6'0", 215 lbs.

Stats In 2011: Murray split time at RB with Darrell Scott, and had a shade over 500 yards rushing, leading the team with eight rushing TDs. He also threw a beautiful TD pass to Deonte Welch versus Louisville.

Current Position On Depth Chart: Murray is listed as co-starter at RB with Marcus Shaw.

How He Came To USF: Demetris chose USF over Wake Forest and Maryland after being awarded Georgia's 2A Player of the Year and winning a state title as a senior at Buford High School. He rushed for more than 1000 yards in each of his junior and senior seasons.

Recruiting Rankings: Murray was rated three stars by both Rivals and Scout. Scout rated him as the #67 RB in the country, and Rivals rated him #49.

Projected Playing Time In 2012: After Scott made the questionable decision to go pro a year early, Murray is in line as starter for the 2012. He'll nominally share the RB duties with Shaw, but as Murray has 3 inches and 26 pounds on Shaw, we'll likely see Murray get more carries, especially in power running situations, and Shaw will be a shiftier change of pace.
