Unfortunately, this next player on our countdown might be an odd man out at his position this season.
#47 P Chris Veron
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'3" 216 lbs.
Stats in 2011: While he was eligible, Veron did not see any action. (Which was disappointing with the poor punting on display by USF last season.)
Current Spot on Depth Chart: Not listed. Kicker Mattias Ciabatti is listed as starting punter, and Justin Brockhaus-Kann is second string. He's also behind Marvin Kloss for the kickoff job.
How Did He Come to USF? From Ocala Forest High School, where he was a two-time all-state player (Class 4A his junior year, and then Class 6A his senior year) who handled punts and kickoffs.
Recruiting Rankings: Veron was listed as a two-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout, and although it appears USF might have been the only ones to offer him a scholarship out of high school, there were some other schools after him like Florida State, Miami, and Alabama.
Projected Playing Time for 2012: Unless Veron makes a comeback during fall practice and overtakes either Ciabatti or Kloss, we may not see him at all again this season. But with Maikon Bonani a senior, the placekicking job will come open next year and Veron might get another shot.
