This week the biggest event on the USF Calendar is Jamie and I gambling away our life savings in Reno of course USF vs. a feisty Nevada football team. But there's plenty of other Bulls events this weekend if you're not a degenerate gambler and football addict like the co-site managers of this space. Here's what else is happening:
MEN'S SOCCER
• HOME vs. South Carolina, Thursday, September 6th at 9:20pm, Corbett Soccer Stadium
• HOME vs. Iona, Saturday, September 9th at 7:30pm, Corbett Soccer Stadium
Yup, the Bulls are #2 in the country, so let's enjoy this season everyone. And the USF Tournament this weekend brings on two teams that the Bulls will want to dispose of easily. Sakerlina is receiving votes in the poll but isn’t ranked, and Iona is nowhere to be seen. I can’t wait for the students to start the “It’s all right, it’s ok, we’re a soccer school anyway!” chant at another sport this year.
EDIT: Bulls lose to South Carolina 1-0 in a game that finished well after midnight due to weather delays. Sorry for the jinx, ya'll.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
• HOME for the USF Invitational, Friday, September 7th at 5pm (women) and 5:40pm (men), The USF Claw Golf Course
This will be your only opportunity to see the Bulls XC run at home this season. It's a 16-team meet, with all teams from Florida. That will include Florida, Miami, UCF, FAU, FIU, but also most of the Division II Sunshine State Conference, and even Pasco-Hernando Community College. We had no idea this was allowed either.
Much more after the jump, especially if you live around Charleston, SC.
VOLLEYBALL
· Saint Louis Tournament. Friday, September 7th vs. Southeast Missouri State, 5:30pm. Saturday, September 8th vs. Evansville, 11:00am, vs. Saint Louis, 8:00pm
As the blogosphere's leading expert on USF Volleyball (2-4 this year), let me share that this team has me extra stabby so far this season. I've seen five of their first six matches in person, and the only one I missed they spit out a two-sets-to-none lead to Kent State in Raleigh last weekend. Kind of glad I wasn't there, I might have committed a crime. Their inability to close means leads like 20-16, 24-22, 22-18 and others haven't been safe, and when the pressure is on their passing and execution generally has sucked. They'll need to get mentally tougher to have any shot at making the conference tournament. Full team preview coming as soon as I can get the writing time, and when we start playing better so I can write nice things.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
· College of Charleston Cup Tournament. Friday, September 7th, 7:30pm, at College of Charleston. Sunday, September 9th, 12:00pm, vs. Kennesaw State
The Bulls head to one of the great underrated cities of the South for two this weekend. I’d write more about this, but apparently USF doesn’t write game notes anymore. None of these teams are ranked, and the 2-3 Bulls dropped a pair to Georgia and Dartmouth last weekend.
SAILING
· At SAISA Open, Saturday, September 8th, Charleston, SC
Oh hey look, two teams get to the Lowcountry this weekend. Rainbow Row, Fort Sumter, great Irish bars… enjoy the trip Bulls, it’s a beautiful area.
I’d also write something about the team, but currently our team roster is a total blank on the official site, and nothing has been written about USF Sailing since April. I hate trolling, and I know it looks like we’re bitter especially after we as a site were denied credentials again this year… but I mean COME ON. That is just embarrassing.
MEN’S GOLF
· At Invitational at the Ocean Course, September 9th-11th, Kiawah Island, SC
Oh HELL yes. A chance to play the same course Rory McIlroy lapped the field on to win the PGA Championship a month ago, and home of the War On The Shore Ryder Cup where Bernard Langer missed one of the most famous putts ever in golf. Enjoy that trip Bulls, should be fun. And you can hang with women’s soccer and sailing all weekend too.
WOMEN’S GOLF
· At The Waverly, September 10th-12th, Starkeville, MS
All the info is here. Competing teams include host Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Memphis, Murray State, Southern Miss, Tulane, South Alabama, and Kennesaw State.
