The Bulls fell to 12th ranked Louisville last night in another heartbreaking loss for the ladies. USF, now 14-5 (3-4), had a 9 point led at one point in the second half against the Cardinals, but a 10-0 run by Louisville and big night from Shoni Schimmel (38 points) stole the upset bid away from the Bulls.
USF was down just one point at halftime as Courtney Williams sank a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to bring the Bulls closer and give them the momentum heading into the locker room. The Bulls came out hot the second half, making a ton of shots as both sides exchanged buckets, but USF went cold and Schimmel took over.
Williams finished the night with 11 points off the bench. Andrell Smith had 18 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds. Andrea Smith had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Inga Orekhova had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Alisia Jenkins had 6 points, 8 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.
This was another tough loss for the Bulls as they once again came close to beating a highly ranked team in league play. Just a few weeks ago, USF fell in double overtime to Notre Dame, missing a chance to knock off the 2nd ranked team in the nation. The ladies are playing hard and are knocking on the door of a major upset, but it just wasn't their night last night.
The Bulls will now hit the road for the next two games as they head to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers on Sunday at 1PM. Pitt has lost seven straight games and will be looking to upset the Bulls on the road. USF needs to build off of their effort against the Cardinals, take the experience with them on the road, and get back to .500 in Big East play.
