USF Softball Goes 3-0 in Under Armour Showcase Tournament

The USF softball team continued their winning streak, going a perfect 3-0 over the weekend in the Under Armour Showcase.

The USF softball team ran their winning streak to eight games as they completed a 3-0 weekend at the Under Armour Showcase. The Bulls appear to have recovered from their early-season malaise, getting great pitching over the weekend and finding some much-needed offense.

The Bulls got it going on Friday afternoon with a 5-3 win over South Carolina. D'Anna Devine went 1 for 2 and scored twice. Stephanie Medina went 2 for 2 with a home run and three runs batted, while Monica Santos had two hits and an RBI. Lindsey Richardson struck out eight in four innings, and Sara Nevins pitched three scoreless innings of relief to hold off the Gamecocks.

In the nightcap, USF cranked up the big bats and run-ruled UMass 12-1 in five innings. Devine had another 2-for-2 game and scored twice. Kenshyra Jackson hit two home runs and drove in four, and Lee Ann Spivey and Kourtney Salvarola also went deep for the Bulls. Allie Patiermo added a three-run double as a pinch hitter. Nevins gave up a run and three hits over four innings, and Sam Greiner finished off UMass with a scoreless fifth.

USF capped off the weekend with a 5-0 shutout of Wagner on Saturday afternoon. Kaitlyn Santo drove in three runs for the Bulls, which was more than enough for Greiner as she threw a three-hit shutout.

The Bulls are now 14-10, winners of eight straight, and for the first time this season they look like the team everyone thought they could be. Richardson, Nevins, and Greiner were all impressive this weekend, and there were plenty of runs to go around. Medina is beginning to heat up, and Kenshyra Jackson hit a total of four homers this week, including two in Wednesday's doubleheader against Central Michigan. The best part is that those home runs are doing damage with Devine and others getting on base ahead of the big bats.

USF will try to continue their winning streak with a "doubleheader" on Tuesday, hosting Quinnipiac at 5:00pm and Maine right after that. The Bulls then face Boston University on Wednesday night at 7.
