The Bulls will continue their 16 game home stand this weekend with a four game series against Columbia. USF is off to its best start since 1982 (when they went 8-0) with a 7-0 record so far (best in school history was 9-0 in 1974). The first game will be at 7 PM on Friday, then a double header starting at 2 PM on Saturday, and finishing up on Sunday 1 PM.
Columbia will start its season off this weekend against the Bulls. They are coming off a 28-21 season that saw them win their 11th Ivy League title and their school-first NCAA Regional game, with a 6-5 win over New Mexico in 13 innings. Their pitching rotation is led by Seniors David Speer (first-team All-Ivy selection last year) and Joey Donino. As a staff they posted an ERA of 3.67 last season.
In related news, FGCU beat the #23 Florida Gators last night by a score of 2-1. As you recall, the Bulls dominated the Eagles 5-1 earlier in the year. Not saying this means we're better than the Gators, but not saying it doesn't either.
Up next for the Bulls is a big two game series when FSU comes into town. The Seminoles are currently ranked #2 in the country and feature the Heisman winning quarterback Jameis Winston, who plays a little outfield as well as relief pitching. The first game is Tuesday, March 4th at 7 PM and the second will be the following day at 3 PM. This will be the Bulls first real test to see if they're actually contenders, or just doing what pretenders to best- pretending.
