Stampeding The 2014 USF Football Roster - #85 Ruben Gonzalez

We meet a Bull who may not be with us this next season.

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

Today's player has a chance to make an impact at wideout this season, but his status is up in the air.

#85 WR Ruben Gonzalez
Redshirt Junior, 6'3", 199 lbs

Stats in 2013: Gonzalez played in 11 games last season, catching 5 passes for 71 yards.

Where he was on the 2013 Depth Chart: Not listed in the two-deep at receiver.

How did he come to USF: Ruben came from Robinson High School in Tampa, where he attracted a fair amount of national attention. He chose the Bulls over offers from Purdue, Washington State, Minnesota and Iowa State among others.

Recruiting Rankings: Gonzalez was a consensus three-star recruit from all the major websites.

Projected Playing Time: Well, this is a tricky one. The Bulls are thin at receiver behind Andre Davis, and while Gonzalez has yet to put up great numbers, he does have two years of experience and would logically be in the rotation. But a tweet from Joey Knight in April said that Ruben wouldn't be returning to the team this season. He's still listed on USF's official roster, however, and we've yet to hear any further word on his status. If he is indeed on the team, there will likely be playing time, however limited, for Ruben.

Fun Fact: Remember that really awesome onside kick that USF pulled out in garbage time against Memphis? Gonzalez both kicked and recovered it. Can we keep him on the team as an emergency kicker?
