USF Running Back Sta'fon McCray to Transfer, Others to Follow?

The Bulls lost some depth at running back, but this makes sense for all parties.

We've heard rumblings about this one for a while, and now it's finally been announced: Josh Newberg over at Bulls247 reported today that Bulls redshirt sophomore running back Sta'fon McCray will be transferring to Arizona Western Junior College. USF hasn't made an official announcement, but McCray tweeted a confirmation a few hours ago.

McCray was a consensus three-star running back with a handful of Power Five offers and was expected to make an immediate impact in Willie Taggart's first season in 2013, but he was beaten out by fellow true freshman Darius Tice and redshirted. He fell behind Marlon Mack and D'Ernest Johnson in 2014, and with all three backs in front of him having multiple years of eligibility left, it makes sense that McCray would look elsewhere for playing time. He never saw the field on offense, but did contribute a bit on special teams last season, appearing in nine games and making a pair of tackles.

McCray's a talented player-- he ran for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Osceola High School-- so here's hoping he can get some carries at Arizona Western and make it back to a Division I roster in the future. Best of luck, Sta'fon!

Edit: Hold onto your butts. We haven't seen the last of this, and if the rumblings are true, there are some major names involved.
