Stats in 2014: McCants redshirted last year.
Spot on Fall Depth Chart: Not listed.
How He Came to USF: McCants hails from Niceville High School, in Niceville, which is up in the panhandle. He played wide receiver, tailback and kick returner. In his senior year, McCants scored 27 touchdowns (18 receiving, nine rushing) as his team made the state championship game. He got a lot of attention and was offered by about 20 schools, including FSU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Minnesota and Cal. He joined the Bulls on National Signing Day in 2014.
Recruiting Rankings: McCants got three stars from everyone.
Projected Playing Time: Without Stanley Clerveaux, There isn't much depth (that we know of) in the receiving corps this year. Flowers will be counting on the tight ends and Rodney Adams as his main targets. There will also be a rotation of yet unknown guys such as McCants, Chase Whitehead, Evan Wilson, A.J. Legree and several true freshmen. Everyone will get opportunities on the field and by the end of the season we will have a much better picture of what the unit can do.
I have seen McCants beat man coverage several times in fall camp and he looks good doing it, so I wouldn't be surprised if he steps up and becomes a starter by the end of the year. We may also see McCants take Hassan Childs' place as the punt returner, or Chris Dunkley's place returning kickoffs.
Highlights: McCants' coaches got him the ball as much as possible in high school, and he didn't disappoint.
