It had been projected for weeks that Birmingham would be the bowl destination for USF, but now it’s finally been confirmed. South Florida will head to the Birmingham Bowl on Thursday December 29th for a 2 p.m. ET/1 CT showdown with South Carolina at Legion Field.
Bulls vs. Gamecocks at legendary Legion Field.

After a season in which USF achieved a program best 10 wins and had several players take home All-AAC honors, the Bulls will make their eighth trip to a bowl game in school history, the second of which in Birmingham.
Exactly a decade ago, USF notched their first ever bowl victory in the Magic City in the then PapaJohns.com Bowl in a 24-7 win over an East Carolina team being coached by some dude named Skip Holtz.
As for their opponent, South Carolina being bowl eligible at 6-6 is a bit of a surprise in the SEC East considering it being year one of the Will Muschamp era and Spurrier-low key mailing it in recruiting wise during his final few seasons in Columbia. The Gamecocks come into this contest at 93rd in overall S&P+, but have jumped 45 spots on defense from last year.
It’s been a point of debate on whether or not beating a team from the horrendous SEC East actually means anything this year, but it serves as an opportunity for the American to strengthen their #brand by sending an AP top-25 program to stunt on the ESS EEE CEE. Also if we’re lucky, we might see a Coach Boom sideline meltdown like this...
We’ll also researching a bus package to and from the game for fans this week, so be on the lookout for that.
