We move from the receivers and tight ends in the 80s to offensive linemen in the 70s. There's no one wearing #79 right now, so with apologies to USF football's all-time renaissance man Chaz Hine, we're going to go a bit further back into USF history for today's stand-in.
#79 RT Levi Newton
2001-2004, 6'4", 305 lbs.
Career Stats: Newton played a total of 40 games at right tackle for the Bulls. He started 35, including two as a true freshman in 2001 and 33 in a row covering the entire 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons.
How He Came To USF: Levi played at Jacksonville's Trinity Christian High School. He was a two-time Class 2A all-state player and helped the Conquerors reach the state final in 1999. He also won a state title in a Class 2A 4x100 "big man" relay, which sounds amazing.
Recruiting Rankings: We don't know because there aren't any 2001 recruiting rankings to be found. USF was almost exclusively getting two-star commits at that point, so Newton might have been one as well.
His Best Game: It's so hard to tell with offensive linemen, but we'll say the 2004 game against Army, when he helped the Bulls run for 367 yards, a school record at the time. Wasn't Levi's fault that Army scored touchdowns on five straight possessions to ruin that game.
After College: Newton was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Lions in 2005. He spent a season on their practice squad, played for the Cologne Conquerors (what a coincidence) of NFL Europe, and got some preseason action in 2006 with the Lions, but never appeared in a regular-season NFL game.
