We’re excited around here, and for good reason. USF has finally decided to field a men’s basketball team this season! With the program being brand new, there are a lot of new players for us all to learn about. Between now and the season opener on Friday, we’ll introduce everyone to you, in numerical order.

#5 F Malik Martin, Redshirt Junior, 6’11”, 210 lbs.

How He Came To USF: Despite attending high school in Florida, Malik played his first two seasons of college ball at USC. He transferred to be part of the new USF program at the beginning of last season, and did not play due to NCAA transfer rules.

2015-2016 with USC: Averaged 6.6 minutes, 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game in 27 appearances during his sophomore season. He shot 43.2 percent (16-37) from the field and 57.7% (15-26) from the free throw line. Martin had a season-high nine points against Stanford.

2014-2015 with USC: Played in 29 games and made 15 starts as a freshman, averaging 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds. Led the Trojans with a .524 shooting percentage, was third in blocks with 22 and fourth in rebounds with 105.

Malik returns to his home state and should play a fairly significant role on this USF team. Collin actually wrote about him on the day his transfer was announced. You can read that here.
