#98 DE Mike Love - 5th Year Senior, 6’4”, 266 lbs.
2016 Stats: Love played in every game except Syracuse and started the last nine. He had 27 tackles (20 solo) and seven TFL. He deflected a McKenzie Milton pass in the fourth quarter against C. that Auggie Sanchez intercepted. (Quinton Flowers scored on the next play to restore USF’s 14-point lead.) He also had three sacks - half apiece against East Carolina and SMU, and full sacks against FSU and South Carolina. That last sack was also USF’s last play of the season. He brought down Jake Bentley on fourth down and forced the game-ending fumble in overtime of the Bulls’ 46-39 win.
2015 Stats: Love finished the season with 10 tackles, 1.5 TFL, a quarterback hurry, and a pass breakup. He also sacked Everett Golson against Florida State.
2014 Stats: Love appeared in three games in 2014, but did not record any stats.
2013 Stats: Love allegedly played in the McNeese State debacle, although we don’t see him listed on the participation chart. He injured his knee, had surgery, and took a redshirt year.
How He Came To USF: Love was a three-year starter at defensive end and linebacker at Clearwater's Countryside High School, and was named Pinellas County defensive player of the year in 2011 by the Tampa Bay Times. USF was always Love's first choice, even before he got an offer from them. Once the Bulls offered him a scholarship, he accepted over a number of suitors, like Nebraska, West Virginia, Louisville, Mississippi State and Cincinnati.
Recruiting Rankings: Both Rivals and 247 ranked Love as a low-three star prospect.
Follow Him On... Well, we're not sure. We couldn't find Mike's Twitter or Instagram feeds, if he even has them. (We found a Twitter name we think he used in high school, but it's been deactivated.) There are quite a few people named Mike Love in the world, including a Beach Boy, so if you can track him down let us know.
