You know, I thought Buffalo over Ohio was a good play. And Northern Illinois at home. I never got around to entering it - real-world distractions - but really, a 9-1 team getting points over an unremarkable Ohio team? Of course, Ohio crushed them, 52-17. And NIU lost as well.
So I’ve decided the only winning move is not to play, and I’m going to use one of my byes this week. Remember, each player may skip two weeks and still be eligible for the official championship. And, I gave everyone a free pass on the week we had the storm. Week 6, I think it was.
Mid-November is a bit of a lull anyway. There are a lot of obligatory conference games, and SEC silly season. A lot of divisional races have already been decided: Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, and Northwestern have already clinched their divisions. Pittsburgh has a huge lead in their division, but then again, they are Pittsburgh. Ohio State-Michigan and Oklahoma-West Virginia next week will be decisive. Texas plays Iowa State this week to stay alive for second in the Big XII.
Syracuse-Notre Dame is important, for the Irish to stay in the national race, and to sell Notre Dame-New York Yankees crossover merchandise. Pair that jersey with a yellow and blue “Dubs” hat and you’ll be the best-dressed insufferable front-runner at the sports bar.
Of course, college football’s unremarkable weeks are often when the most chaos happens.
