USF announced on Saturday the addition of Larry Dixon to Brian Gregory’s men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach.

The former Georgia Southern assistant fills the void left by former Bulls assistant Chad Dollar, who departed from USF to join Tom Crean’s staff at Georgia in April.

Dixon spent the past five seasons at Georgia Southern under head coach Mark Byington, helping the Eagles in their jump from the SoCon to the Sun Belt.

During that period of time, the Eagles finished over .500 three times. That included an 18-15 mark during the 2016-17 season that earned them a trip to the CBI, the program’s first postseason appearance since 2006.

Before arriving to Statesboro, the Johnson C. Smith University alum spent several seasons coaching on the high school circuit in his native North Carolina before serving as an assistant at Winthrop from 2007-12. He spent one season as the head coach of York Comprehensive School before moving back up into the college ranks.

“We are excited to welcome Larry to Tampa and to our program,” said USF head coach Brian Gregory. “He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and will be a great fit with our staff and players. Larry will help us continue to develop USF players at a high level and bring top level student-athletes to our program.”
