After the USF softball team split their doubleheader with Seton Hall Friday, Saturday's series finale with the Pirates was pretty much a must win for Coach Ken Eriksen's club so they could stay at the top of the Big East standings with Notre Dame and DePaul.
The Bulls responded against the Hall today in a big way, using a 10 run 3rd inning to run-rule Seton Hall 17-0 after 5 innings. Freshman Stephanie Medina had a great day at the plate, going 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and 7 runs batted in. Sara Nevins pitched both wins in the series, and after throwing a 3-hit shutout in the 2nd game of the doubleheader Friday, pitched a complete game 1-hit shutout this afternoon. Nevins struck out 7 Pirates and walked no one in her 5 innings of work.
Greg Auman pointed out after Medina's monster day that she broke USF's freshman records in both home runs and RBIs today with 8 and 48 respectively. Its going to be a treat having Stephanie around Fowler Avenue for the next 3 seasons.
With the win today, the Bulls improve to 29-16 overall this season and 9-1 in Big East play. The Bulls head home for a 3 game set against Connecticut this weekend.
