Today's player will be called on to stand up to the best running games the Big East has to offer.
#46 NT Cory Grissom
Redshirt Junior, 6'2", 317 lbs.
Stats In 2010: Working next to Terrell McClain, Grissom started all 13 games at nose tackle and occupied blockers as best he could to let his teammates make plays. Cory made 16 tackles, three for loss, and also broke up a pass.
Current Spot On Depth Chart: Grissom is listed as the starting nose tackle, ahead of Luke Sager and Todd Chandler.
How He Got To USF: Grissom started at Troup County High School in LaGrange, Georgia. He recorded 13 sacks in his 2007 senior year, and also lettered on the wrestling team for two seasons. Cory picked the Bulls over North Carolina, Arkansas, and Southern Miss, as USF began to extend their recruiting base into southern Georgia. Interestingly enough, he committed right after the Bulls' win [$] over West Virginia that season.
Recruiting Rankings: "Corey" Grissom was given three stars by Rivals and ranked as the nation's #64 defensive tackle in the Class of 2008. (Also, this photo just kills me.) Scout also gave Grissom three stars and listed him at #66 nationwide among defensive tackles.
Projected Playing Time For 2011: Grissom will need to hold his own against the strength-based teams in conference play like Syracuse, Rutgers, and UConn, plus non-conference teams like Notre Dame and Miami. He will begin the season in the starting lineup and should stay at the front of the tackle rotation, barring injury or Todd Chandler playing like a man possessed.
