Our other entry for today looks poised to start after spending last season learning the defense.
#13 LB Curtis Weatherspoon
Senior, 6'0" 211 lbs.
Stats In 2010: Playing mostly on special teams and a reserve linebacker, Weatherspoon participated in all 13 games last season. Curtis had 19 tackles on the season.
Current Position On Depth Chart: Weatherspoon was listed as a co-starter at the SAM linebacker spot with Reshard Cliett on the post-spring depth chart.
How He Came To USF: Weatherspoon came to USF from Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, after starring at Valdosta High School in Valdosta, Georgia. In his sophomore season at Dean, Curtis had 74 tackles with 19 of those for a loss. Weatherspoon also had two interceptions and nine pass breakups. Weatherspoon chose USF over offers from Bowling Green, Marshall, and UMass.
Recruiting Rankings: Curtis was rated as a three-star safety recruit by Rivals and a two-star OLB prospect by Scout.
Projected Playing Time In 2011: After battling with Cliett for most of the spring and summer, Weatherspoon has been taking a majority of 1st team snaps at SAM. Curtis seems prepared to take advantage of his senior season. If Weatherspoon can produce like Jacquian Williams did last season, the Bulls will be in great shape on defense.
