Very Necessary: Baseball, Softball Teams Force Second Games

Both the baseball and softball teams won their elimination games today, and will play again tonight.

The baseball team defeated UConn 1-0 behind a complete game shutout from Derrick Stultz The Bulls have to beat the Huskies again tonight at 6:30. If they do, they get a winner-takes-all game with St. John's at high noon Sunday.

And it was another tight, extra-inning game at USF Softball Stadium where USF beat Hofstra 2-1 in 9 innings. Sara Nevins, who is a boss, struck out Hofstra's star Olivia Galati with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. The Super Regional series is tied at 1-1.

Sara Nevins is a boss, but Olivia Galati is freakin' Iron Man Joe McGinnity, having pitched all 20 innings in the series and batted in the heart of the order. They'll go at it again in the deciding game, starting soon.

Also, there's a funny headline on gousfbulls.com:

Yes, I realize that text is generated using the game description on the schedule page. But I had to chuckle at the thought of Jim Louk live broadcasting a game that might not happen, like 43-man squamish where the visiting captain correctly guesses the coin toss.
