It's a battle of true freshman quarterbacks. Mike White starts his first game for the Bulls, and John O'Korn continues his chase to be one of the best passers in this freshman class. And it's live on ESPN. Just leave a basket of candy outside your door, stay inside, and watch this with your family of people on the internet.
We didn't do a Houston preview because it was a short week and booze and no Houston Cougars blogger we could find, so here's a pretty good synopsis:
John O'Korn is good. The true freshman from St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale completes over 63% of his passes, averages over 265 yards a game, and has 19 TD's passes against four interceptions. He's just like the USF QB situation so far, only the exact opposite.
Houston averages 42 points a game. They score in bunches and can lay it on with receivers like Deontay Greenberry (842 yards, 8TD's), Daniel Spencer (543 yards, 5 TD's), and Xavier Maxwell (313 yards, 3 TD's). They average 6.5 yards per play, and rack up 496.7 yards of offense per contest. They can throw it all over the place, and will attempt to attack USF's young secondary. Getting them off the field in a hurry will be key if the Bulls want to hang around for a while.
The Cougars can turn you over. UH's defense has 16 INT's so far this year, and has forced 15 fumbles (11 recovered). Their +20 in turnover margin as a team is the best in the country. Mike White will have zero margin for error in terms of ball security in his first game. On the road. On a short week. Sheesh.
The hashtag Houston is asking people to use for this game is #FootballFrightNight. Hopefully that doesn't refer to the Bulls when they have the ball.
Who: USF Bulls (2-5, 2-1 AAC) vs. Houston Cougars (6-1, 3-0 AAC).
What: A football game on national television that will be watched by diehards of both teams, college football junkies, and people with extensive gambling problems that are attempting to cover tonight to get another other bookie off their back.
Where: Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX. This is also USF's first-ever regular season game inside a dome I think. (Forgot all those games at Syracuse.)
When: 7pm Eastern.
Why: Because we need to know if Mike White is a long-term solution to our seemingly unending quarterback problems. And we need to see if Marcus Shaw can help inject some life into the moribund offense. And because it surely won't be worse than this:
Football: McNeese State 53, USF 21 (Highlights) (via Southland Conference Digital Network)
Line: Houston by 19. It opened 10.5, which means even the degenerates have given up on USF. Let's hope Mike White can make them pay.
We'll be around watching the game, and we'd like to make this a lively chat since we should all be at home watching together as one big, happy, dysfunctional Bulls family. Looking forward to spending this pagan holiday with all of you!!
