Clint Trickett to Transfer From FSU, Considering USF

In perhaps the biggest Bulls-related spring football headline to date, Florida State rising junior quarterback Clint Trickett has been granted release by the university and is considering USF, West Virginia, and Kentucky as potential transfer destinations.

Trickett had been competing for the Noles' starting job in the spring with highly regarded redshirt freshman Jameis Winston, but it appears Winston had a leg up in the race. Trickett, a former three-star recruit, performed well in backup duty over the past two seasons, completing 62.3 percent of his passes for 947 yards and seven touchdowns and four picks for his Seminoles career.

This would be a big get for the Bulls, not because Trickett is expected to be any sort of savior, but because of the absolute crater that is the quarterback position at the moment. Right now we're looking at two entirely unproven options in Bobby Eveld and Matt Floyd, and a true freshman who has yet to take a snap on a college practice field (Mike White).

Here's the kicker: Trickett is set to graduate in May, which by NCAA rule would make him eligible to play for another school right away. That's a very enticing prospect for a team desperately in need of quarterback help.

It should be mentioned that Willie Taggart helped to recruit Trickett at Stanford, but he's up against Dana Holgorsen, which is not a particularly enviable situation to be in, ever. Stay tuned.
