So I used to work in the MEAC which is the conference of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, whom USF Baseball was scheduled to play this weekend in their season opener. With the weather in the northeast and the highly limited budgets of MEAC schools (oh the stories I could tell), it's no surprise the Hawks wouldn't be able to traverse the travel nightmare and make it to Tampa this weekend.
But give lots of credit to the Bulls for thinking quickly on their feet so as not to lose the weekend, as USF will head to Jacksonville for the Best Bet Classic at UNF where they'll replace Missouri in the tournament.
USF will play a doubleheader Saturday against Liberty at 12pm and Richmond immediately after, then take on hosts UNF Sunday at 3pm. For a team that has a stated goal of winning at least in the high 30's in terms of number of games and thus to qualify for an NCAA Tournament, every victory will count come Selection Sunday. Getting in three this weekend was big, especially with what should be a slightly tougher Penn State team coming to Tampa for a series starting Feb. 21st.
Also, congratulations to the wives and girlfriends of USF Baseball supporters: Opening Night is no longer Valentine's Day, so the holiday should proceed as scheduled. Yes honey, I know this means me too.
