#56 LB Juwuan Brown
Redshirt Freshman, 6'2", 230 lbs.
Stats in 2014: Brown redshirted as a true freshman last season, bulking up from 210 to 230 pounds.
Spot on Spring Depth Chart: Not listed.
How He Came to USF: By way of Jefferson High School in Tampa, where he had a remarkable senior season with 77 tackles, 31 TFL (!!!) and 12 sacks. He had an impressive list of offers, including Michigan State, Louisville and Kentucky.
Recruiting Rankings: Rivals and 247 gave Juwuan two stars, but ESPN gave him three stars.
Projected Playing Time: Brown could be in line to see a decent amount of playing time in his first season eligible as a Bull. He's not listed on the spring depth chart, but he's been lining up in the "Bull" hybrid DE/LB position as an edge rusher, and he's got the size and speed to play the position well. I think it's safe to say he won't be starting this season, but if he can beat out Zack Bullock for the backup spot, he'll have a shot to see a good amount of snaps.
Fun Fact: This story from the Tampa Bay Times about Juwuan's emotional Signing Day is a very nice, endearing read. It also includes the quote "6'3", 210 lb. beast," which is wonderful imagery.
Highlights: Here's his senior year highlight reel from Jefferson. You can see his speed and pass rushing skills, as well as his ability to play as a down lineman.
