Only Tashon Whitehurst Days Until USF Football

Can this Gainesville native returning as the back-up ‘stinger’ linebacker vie for more snaps in 2015?

#51 LB Tashon Whitehurst
Senior, 6'3", 225 lbs.

Stats in 2014: Started four games and played in all 12 in USF 3-4 defense, finishing fifth on the team with a career-best 49 tackles (33 solo). Tashon also logged 5.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one recovered fumble and one pass break-up en route to posting a season-high seven tackles three times on the year. Whitehurst posted seven tackles and a sack vs. No. 19 ECU, seven tackles vs. N.C. State and logged seven tackles and recovered a fumble in the Bulls win at Tulsa.

Spot on Spring Depth Chart: Whitehurst is listed as the backup Stinger (WILL) linebacker on the 2015 spring depth chart, behind 6’0, 220-pound junior standout Nigel Harris.

How He Came to USF: Tashon went to Gainesville High school, where he was an all-state player and also was voted a team captain. He had 331 tackles over 3 seasons at Gainesville. He originally committed to Syracuse, be pulled his commitment with the Orange and stayed closer to home to sign with USF.

Recruiting Rankings: Whitehurst was rated two stars by Scout, and three stars by Rivals.

Projected Playing Time: Whitehurst will see plenty of action in 2015 and will battle for playing time with Nigel Harris. Even if he's not a regular starter with Harris and Auggie Sanchez ahead of him in the new two-linebacker scheme, he was a standout this spring and will see playing time as the first backer off the bench.

Fun Fact: I'm sure you all remember Tashon's first big play in a Bulls uniform. For a second, it seemed like the Bulls might pull the upset of upsets.
