Fittingly with tomorrow’s opponent being the Naval Academy, USF is holding their annual Salute to Service night on Friday at Raymond James Stadium. To mark the occasion, the Bulls will again wear special uniforms, and they are niiiiiiice.
New uniforms are inspired by the Henderson Airfield, used for testing during World War II, & later became the site of @USouthFlorida pic.twitter.com/qyhtHGB952

The X-shaped runways of Henderson Field that are evoked in the pointillist helmet decal and shoulders were actually a little bit south of the current USF campus. According to this 2015 Tampa Tribune article, when World War II ended it was thought Henderson Field would end up becoming the site of an international airport. But with Pinellas County threatening to build one of their own, and the FAA only interested in having one international airport for all of Tampa Bay, Tampa decided to expand the more centrally located Drew Field into a full-service airport. (The current Tampa International Airport was built on a different part of the property.) Henderson Field, then called Henderson Airport, was closed and the northern end of it was included in the parcel of land that became the USF campus.
Today the only remaining part of the Henderson Field runways can be found at the corner of McKinley Drive and Bougainvillea Avenue, just north of Adventure Island.

Anyway, these uniforms are terrific and Under Armour continues to do a great job with USF’s apparel and I even liked the neon undershirts with the SoFlo jerseys, so there.
