Per 247’s Josh Newberg, Charlie Strong is meeting with USF officials today to discuss the open head coaching position.
A snippet from his report:
A source with knowledge of the situation tells Bulls247 that former Texas Longhorn coach Charlie Strong will be in Tampa today to discuss the head coach position at USF.
Strong has been in talks with USF for the past 24 hours, but as of last night there had been no job offer. That could change today when Strong arrives in Tampa.
This news comes on the heels of Roy Cummings’ report on Thursday that the school had ‘zeroed in’ on Strong as their top candidate and were working through details of a potential contract.
However, Newberg also reports that former USF/new Oregon coach Willie Taggart has also been in contact with with Strong about potentially joining his staff in Eugene as a defensive coordinator.
Then there’s this Dan Wolken tweet:
Someone who knows Charlie well told me yesterday reconciling the fit at USF with not being at a Power 5 will be the biggest hurdle for him.

If Strong were to accept the USF job, it would be expected that he would make his decision by Sunday.
Buckle in folks, it’s going to be a wild 48 hours.
