Courtney Williams Drafted #8 Overall By Phoenix Mercury In WNBA Draft

The best player in USF history joins two of the best women's basketball players in the world. Oh wow.

Ian Bethune

Our undying love of all things Courtney Williams will now continue as she begins her career with the Phoenix Mercury. Williams was selected eighth overall tonight at the WNBA Draft at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

I get why teams would take Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck 1-2-3. They're all incredible basketball players that USF fans have seen up close for four years. But letting Court fall to eighth seems pretty insane. And putting her on the team that finished second in the Western Conference last year with a record of 20-14 while playing WITHOUT Diana Taurasi, who took the season off at the request of her Russian club team... I mean good Lord look out.

Taurasi & Brittney Griner are two of the top players in the world, so Court's gonna get a chance to play with the best every day. This is gonna be a lot of fun to watch.

Congrats to USF's G.O.A.T. Here's the Mercury's national TV schedule where you can watch her this season:

May 14 @ Minnesota ESPN
June 21 @ Dallas ESPN2
Aug 28 vs. LA ESPN2
Sept 6 @ Atlanta ESPN2
