The off-season from hell for USF Men’s Basketball is almost over as the school officially released their schedule for the 2016-17 season. You can check it out here...
What immediately stands out is the non-conference schedule is...manageable. Only leaving the Sun Dome three times within the first month and a half, Orlando Antigua’s lineup will open the season with a non-con slate of teams that combined for a .448 winning percentage (160-197) last year, including three teams that finished dead last in their respective conferences.
Their first real tests will come in the form of George Washington, South Carolina, and Northern Illinois, all of whom made postseason tournaments last season.
The Bulls then open conference play on December 28th at East Carolina and run through the usual gauntlet of eighteen AAC games until the conference tournament, which will begin on March 2nd in Hartford, CT.
With the combination of the dismissal of Chris Perry, Troy Baxter not coming, and a program with virtually no buzz (and under investigation) coming off a dismal 8-25 season, Coach O will have his work cut out for him to show tangible progress in year three of his tenure. A weak non-conference slate could help put some much needed victories on the board quickly.
