USF Football Player Profile: #91 DE Frank Johnson

Career profile of USF defensive end Frank Johnson.

NCAA Football: Birmingham Bowl-South Florida vs South Carolina Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

#91 DE Frank Johnson - Senior, 6’5”, 224 lbs.

2017: Appeared in three games according to the school website.

2016: Did not play at all, which is very odd considering his recruiting pedigree and how badly USF needed playmakers on the defensive line. Was he secretly hurt? Was he just not big enough for defensive end at only 220 pounds? Was he not what the former defensive staff thought they were getting?

How He Came To USF: Johnson played at Hinds Community College. He redshirted in 2014 to save a year of eligibility for his post-JUCO career. In 2015 he made 35 tackles, three sacks and four TFL in a nine-game season. Before Hinds, he played football, basketball, and track at Wilkinson County High School in Woodville, Mississippi. He committed to USF in November 2015.

Recruiting Rankings: Johnson was a three-star prospect on ESPN, and a two-star prospect on 247, Rivals, and Scout.
