On Friday night, Atlanta Carver quarterback Octavious Battle (tremendous name) became the third player to commit to USF football’s 2018 recruiting class in two days.

So far none of the recruiting sites have rated Battle, and a scroll through his Twitter feed shows that his other offers are mostly from FCS and HBCU schools.
After looking at Battle’s junior year tape from Carver, he plays in a similar offense to the one Sterlin Gilbert is used to running. He looks to have decent arm strength, good touch on vertical passes, and enough speed to make things happen when the play breaks down. He also hit some nice throws on the move.
Last year the Panthers went 8-3, reaching the first round of the Georgia Class AAAAA playoffs. Battle completed 100 of 162 passes for 2106 yards and 16 touchdowns (interceptions are not listed). He also carried the ball 39 times for 487 yards and three scores. Octavious also played on the Carver basketball team his first two years, but appears to have stopped.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Octavious’s recruitment in the next few months as power-conference teams move on from their blue-chip quarterback targets. Will Battle get better offers? Can USF hang on to him if those offers come in? Stay tuned.
