USF men’s soccer secured a 1-0 victory over UConn on Saturday night in the first round of the American Athletic Conference tournament to advance to the semifinal where they’ll face No. 3 seed SMU on Wednesday.

The Bulls (11-5-1) got on the board in the 51st minute courtesy of a strike from junior forward Adrian Billhardt, his fifth of the season.

USF had to play the final nine minutes of the match down a man after freshman forward Ignasi Lupon Fores was issued a red card after a dangerous slide tackle.

Senior goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares recorded his fifth shutout of the season, and second in three games. He (and the defense) has allowed just two goals in their last four matches.

The Bulls will face No. 2 seed SMU on Wednesday at 4:30 in Oviedo. USF lost to SMU 3-0 on October 11. The winner will face the winner of UCF vs. Temple/Memphis in the final.
