USF Football Receives PWO Commitment From Seffner Christian WR Christian Helms

The Bulls will ink another wideout to their 2019 class, this one coming from Hillsborough County.

Seffner Christian WR Christian Helms will stay in Hillsborough County for his college football career.

Helms announced via Twitter on Monday night that he will join USF as a preferred walk-on for the 2019 season. He’ll be on a full academic scholarship, allowing some flexibility for the few athletic scholarships the Bulls have left for their 2019 class.

The senior was selected to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2018 Hillsborough County All-Star High School Football Game in December after a breakout final year.

Helms became a major part of the Crusaders’ offense in 2018, helping Seffner Christian improve from 1-8 in 2017 to an 11-1 record in 2018. He finished as the Crusaders’ second leading receiver with 30 receptions, 527 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 12 games.

With his contributions, Seffner Christian advanced to an FHSAA Class 2A Regional Final, where the Crusaders fell against eventual State Semifinalist Admiral Farragut.

He chose the hometown Bulls over other verbal offers from Furman University and Morehead State.

With Helms’ addition to the 2019 recruiting class, USF will bring in four wide receivers: Helms, Logan Berryhill (Kingsland, Ga.), Leonard Parker (Plant HS, Tampa) and Xavier Weaver (Orlando).

Helms will be just the fifth signee to be from the Tampa Bay Area, joining Parker, Jason Vaughn (Advanced Prep Academy, Auburndale), Raymond Collins (Largo HS) and Thomas Nance (Lake Region HS).

He will sign his Letter of Intent on Wednesday at 2 p.m. as a part of the NCAA’s National Signing Day.
