#ScottsTots21: Three-Star Tampa Carrollwood Day DT Desmond Mamudi Flips to Virginia Tech

A last minute flip on signing day.

Nearly going the entire recruiting cycle without any attrition, the 2021 class experienced its first defection on Wednesday with three-star defensive tackle Desmond Mamudi from nearby Carrollwood Day flipping and signing his LOI with Virginia Tech.

The 6’3”, 290 pound DT initially verbally committed to USF way back in May, a big get for a new staff whose stated goal was making the Bay Area their top priority on the recruiting front.

The hometown kid was a menace up front for the Patriots during his senior year, totaling 38 tackles, 16 TFLs, 13 sacks and a forced fumble in eight games of action according to Maxpreps.

That performance attracted the attention of Justin Fuente’s staff at Virginia Tech however, with the Hokies officially extending him an offer on Nov. 19. After just a few weeks of consideration, he decided to flip to the ACC program even as the Fuente’s status as Tech’s head coach hung in the balance late in the season.
