And the PYU 2021 season officially starts today, with the first Picks Thread! Fake betting and lots of real losing has been happening since last Thursday, because the real “Week 0” games are merged into Week 1 for the competition. Today is the first standard Friday announcement, which will be followed by the Tuesday morning Week 1 Results Thread.
First, some notes on rules for this season:
- If you still want to join the competition, or need to recover your password, send an email to me also. You can join as late as Week 2.
- The big rule change for this season is the Points Race. The player who wins the most money in a week will receive 20 points. Second-most will receive 15, then 10-7-5-4-3-2-1 through ninth place in a week. Any other players who finish a week with at least a profit of Ų1.00 will receive 1 point. You must finish a week with a profit to get any points, and you must also meet weekly betting requirements. See Official Rules for more.
- Futures bets are still open for teams that have not played their first game yet. They will close after the last such game begins, which will be Louisville versus Mississippi on Monday. Submit Futures bets by email or Twitter DM.
- Your futures bets will appear on your Dashboard as “Week 99.” Please review yours to make sure I have you down right. The text for conference/division winning plays is a little wonky. But please let me know if any teams, bet types, or amounts are wrong.
- A team must play all of their games, as scheduled, for an over/under wins bet to pay or lose. This has already affected one bet: Oklahoma had the site of its game against Tulane moved because of Hurricane Ida, so defdans’ bet on Oklahoma to go under 11 wins has already been refunded. The division champion and conference champion bets do not require an unmodified schedule.
- Many conferences have said that games will be forfeited if a team cannot play for COVID reasons. Any such games will be “no action”, and any bets on them will be refunded. Winning or losing a forfeit does not pay, or lose, a money line bet.
- I don’t intend to offer the “number of games cancelled this week” bet this year. That was an amusing diversion in 2020, but hopefully this number will always be 0.

Central Florida rallied from a 21-0 deficit to beat Boise State, because of course they did. Do you expect anything different at this point? Apparently so, people keep betting against them. Betting against Ernie McCracken is a safer play at this point.
Tulsa lost to FCS California-Davis, which means that USF arguably didn’t have the worst season opener in the AAC.
