The American Athletic Conference announced today primary partnerships with nine bowl games, and secondary partnerships with three other bowls. The conference will supply teams to six bowls in 2014, 2015, and 2017, and seven bowls in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
The annual American bowls will be the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Al., versus the SEC, the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl in St. Pete versus ACC or Conference USA (three years each), the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park versus C-USA, MAC, and Sun Belt two times apiece, and the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md., versus the ACC.
The American will send teams four years to the Boca Raton Bowl, three years apiece to the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth, Tx., the Hawaii Bowl, and the Bahamas Bowl, and for a newly announced partnership of two years to the New Orleans Bowl.
Back-up partnerships are with the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, the AdvoCare V100 (née Independence) Bowl, ins Shreveport, La., and a newly announced partnership with the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego. If these bowls' primary conferences cannot supply a team, the American will have the opportunity to to replace them with a team.
Also, The American retains the right to assign teams as they see fit, according to matchup and geography.
