ESPN reported on Monday that BYU has accepted a bid to the Miami Beach Bowl. The American Athletic Conference traded its bid in the Bahamas Bowl for Conference USA's bid in the Miami Beach Bowl.
So if BYU is bowl-eligible, the Cougars will play a team from the American at Marlins Park in Miami, while C-USA will play the MAC in the new bowl game in the Bahamas, which C-USA has purchased.
For the AAC, BYU will give the conference an opponent with national prestige. BYU has solid standing as far as traveling for bowls is concerned. This is a real coup for a bowl in its inaugural year.
Sadly, this augurs a premature end to our BAHAMARAMA series. USF will not be eligible for the Bahamas Bowls, unless C-USA or the MAC fail to have enough bowl-eligible teams to fill their bids. RIP #Quest4Nassau, we hardly knew ye. I guess we'll have to come up with an alternative destination in case the Bulls reach the exceedingly hopeful record of 6-6.
