Our mostly-annual Stampeding Through the Roster series continues with one of many returning defensive linemen:
#94 DL Daniel Perry
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'7", 261 lbs.
Stats in 2013: Appeared in seven games. Did not register any tackles or other stats.
Spot on 2013 Depth Chart: Was not listed on last year's two-deep. But neither was any other defensive end now on the roster, so that doesn't tell us much going forward.
How did he come to USF: From University High School in Ft. Lauderdale, where one of his teammates was USF quarterback Mike White. Also lettered in basketball and track.
Recruiting Ratings: Rivals rated him at three stars, Scout.com gave him two. He verbally committed to USF pretty early on, in June 2011. Reportedly had an offer from Oregon.
Projected Playing Time In 2014: With several touted freshmen and JUCO end Demetrius Hill joining the team, Perry could get lost in the shuffle of defensive linemen. He's added about 45 pounds from his high school weight, when he was a pure end, so he could be come an Anthony Hill-type backup at both DE and DT. He's also 6-foot-7 and has long arms, so maybe he could became a kick-blocking specalist, as USF has used in the past.
Fun Fact: Daniel was born in Jamaica, and only moved to the United States at age 14.
