#30 CB Jalen Spencer
Redshirt Sophomore, 6'0", 183 lbs.
Stats in 2013: Played in one game, against McNeese State, where he registered 2 tackles but also injured his shoulder and was out for the rest of the season.
Spot on Pre-Season Depth Chart: He's listed as second-string cornerback
How did he come to USF: By way of the Florida Panhandle. The Pensacola native played QB in high school and had over 3000 yards and over 30 TDs both passing and rushing in his career, and was Northwest Florida MVP his senior year.
Recruiting Rankings: Jalen was rated 3 stars by Rivals and 2 stars by 247. He also received offers from FAU, Minnesota, Southern Miss, South Alabama, and Western Michigan
Projected Playing Time in 2014: Spencer will certainly see more time in 2014, since he was out almost all last season. Since he's listed second at CB, he'll likely see spot duty with the starters as well as some action in nickle and dime formations.
Fun Fact: Jalen was 26-2 as a staring QB, and did we mention over 6,000 yards and 60 TDs. Good lord high school stats can be bonkers.
Here's a video from spring practice, with Spencer picking off Mike White Steven Bench at the 0:45 mark.
