Stampeding The 2014 USF Football Roster - #53 DE Elkino Watson

Catching up on one of the biggest players on USF's defense, both literally and figuratively.

Frank Victores-US PRESSWIRE
#53 DE Elkino Watson
Senior, 6'2", 291 lbs.

Stats in 2013: Elkino played in 11 games at defensive tackle, starting nine. He recorded 28 tackles, with nine for a loss, and 1.5 sacks.

Spot On Preseason Depth Chart: In one of the most interesting twists of the offseason, Elkino was moved to defensive end and is listed as a first-stringer there. With the Bulls' new 3-4 defense that stresses giving offenses different looks, he'll probably line up all over the D-line.

How did he come to USF: From Booker T. Washington High in Miami, where he attracted a lot of attention. He received offers from Florida, Florida State and Miami among many others.

Recruiting Rankings: As you could probably guess, Elkino was a big get for the Bulls. He was given four stars by Rivals, who ranked him as the 23rd-best defensive tackle in his class, and received three stars from 247.

Projected Playing Time in 2014: A lot. The Bulls will be fielding a very young defense in 2014, and Elkino will be counted on to be a big senior presence up front. Whether he's lining up at end or tackle, his development from rotational player to full-time starter and leader will play a big role in how the USF D fares this season.

Fun Fact: One of the best USF stats of all time is that Elkino tied for the team lead in interceptions in 2012... with one. His video after committing to the Bulls back in 2010 is also a winner, between the reporter's vaguely confused "South Florida it is... so...." and one of Elkino's rationales for picking USF-- "They beat UM."
