Sophomore, 6'2", 241 lbs.
Stats in 2014: Augustin Sanchez started all 12 games as middle linebacker and logged 65 tackles, including two for loss, an interception and a fumble returned for a touchdown.
Spot On Spring Depth Chart: Starting middle linebacker above LeGrande Harley.
How he came to USF: Sanchez went to Northeast High School in St. Pete, where he was a standout defensive end and a decent basketball forward. He was also offered by Marshall, FIU, Tulane, and some FCS schools. Coming to USF was an easy decision for him: "It was a no-brainer," he said recently. "My brother went here, and that was a big deciding factor for me. It was close to home and I love my family, I love being around them, I love fishing, I love the water; it was a no-brainer, and USF is a good school."
Recruiting Rankings: Sanchez had two stars from Rivals and 247.
Projected Playing Time: He'll be on the field for every play that matters. Sanchez's "middle" linebacker position is one of only two linebackers on the field, and Nigel Harris will be the more dynamic, free-roaming man. This means that Sanchez will be the guy who reads the quarterback and diagnoses the play. He will need to execute some disciplined defense, staying in position and considering all possibilities as he plays both pass coverage and run support on almost every snap.
Fun Fact: Auggie's brother is Armando Sanchez, who played for the Bulls back when beating ranked teams and winning bowl games was the norm.
Highlights: Here is last year's Maryland game, in which Sanchez had three tackles, an interception and a fumble return for a touchdown.
