Redshirt Freshman, 5'9", 170 lbs.
Stats in 2014: Whitehead redshirted in 2014.
Spot on Fall Camp Depth Chart: Backup slot receiver under Rodney Adams.
How He Came to USF: From Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, near Pensacola. Whitehead played tailback, defensive back and kick returner in high school. The Blue Devils and the Ragin' Cajuns showed mild interest, but the only offer he had was from Columbia University. Chase decided to try his luck as a preferred walk-on at USF instead.
Recruiting Rankings: Whitehead got two stars from 247, the only major service to rate him.
Projected Playing Time: The team lacks depth at wide receiver; Rodney Adams is basically the only proven one on the team. Opponents will know that and cover Adams accordingly. Ryeshene Bronson, A.J. Legree, Stanley Clerveaux and Whitehead are going to have to pick up some slack as the quarterback situation evolves and freshman receivers acclimate to the team. At least one of these guys will have to step up this year or the passing game will be very frail.
Since Rodney Adams is also listed as the starting Z receiver, and can't occupy more than one place at one time, there should be some room for Whitehead to start at slot. Whitehead had a great spring and gets thrown to a lot in practice. His best attribute is that he rarely drops the ball. It would be nice if he had another two or three inches in height, but the Bulls' receiving corps is what it is.
Highlights: Here you can see that Whitehead was all over the field in high school and had a knack for finding extra yards.
