#25 DB Cameron Gergley
Redshirt Freshman, 6'0", 180 lbs.
Stats in 2014: Gergley redshirted in his first year with the USF program.
Spot on Fall Camp Depth Chart: Not listed.
How He Came to USF: Cameron attended Winter Park High School in Orlando, where he had an impressive career with nine interceptions in his last two seasons. Still, perhaps overshadowed a bit by two high-profile recruits on his defense (as this Orlando Sentinel piece suggests), he didn't receive any FBS scholarship offers. In the end, he passed up an offer from FCS Stetson-- which wouldn't have covered the cost of tuition-- to accept a walk-on role with the Bulls last summer.
Recruiting Rankings: Gergley was listed by a few of the major recruiting services, but did not receive any ratings.
Projected Playing Time: I don't think it's out of the question for Cameron to see some playing time on special teams. If he doesn't, he's still got three years of eligibility ahead of him. He's a talented player who fell through the cracks during the recruiting process a bit, so hopefully he finds his way onto the field soon.
Highlights: Here's the tape from Gergley's senior season at Winter Park. His cover skills could use some work, but he's got speed and a nose for the ball-- two good qualities for a special teamer to have.
