Only Jalen Spencer Days Until USF Football

Can this Pensacola native returning as the back-up ‘husky’ from last season win some playing time from Jamie Byrd in 2015?

#30 DB Jalen Spencer
Junior, 6'0", 183 lbs.

Stats in 2014: Spencer saw action in the final four games of the season, mostly on special teams, after battling injuries during the first part of the year.

Spot on Fall Depth Chart: Spencer is listed as the backup ‘husky’ hybrid position on the 2015 fall depth chart, behind standout 5’11, 184-pound JUCO transfer Jamie ‘#AngryByrd’ Byrd.

How He Came to USF: The Pensacola native played QB was 30-1 as a starter, passed for 3,541 yards and 30 TDs, while rushing for 3,261 yards and 37 TDs during his three-year career. Spencer was ranked 90th on Florida Varsity's list of top players in the state, was invited to play in the Florida vs. Georgia All-Star game and the Florida All-Star game, a three-time all-state performer, three-year captain, the Northwest Florida MVP, tabbed a Super Senior by the Pensacola News Journal, led Pensacola to the 2009 3A state championship, also lettered in basketball, baseball and track and field.

Recruiting Rankings: Spencer was rated a 81.62 three-star by 247 Sportstwo stars by Scout76 three-star by ESPN, and 5.60 three-star 62nd ranked athlete by Rivals. He also received offers from FAU, Minnesota, Southern Miss, South Alabama, Western Michigan and a couple of small schools and was also receiving plenty of interest from other schools like Florida, Alabama, and LSU before opting to end his recruitment and committing to USF.

Projected Playing Time: Spencer should see the most action of his career so far while serving as Byrd's backup.
