#27 S Austin Hudson
Redshirt Sophomore, 6’2", 207 lbs.
2015 Stats: Hudson sat out a year after transferring from Wisconsin following the departure of coach Gary Andersen to Oregon State.
Position on Depth Chart: Austin is third at free safety on the post-spring depth chart, behind starter Tajee Fullwood and backup Devin Abraham.
How He Came To USF: Austin played his true freshman year at Wisconsin, mostly appearing on special teams. Before that, he played at Plant High School in Tampa. He had to wait his turn because of the Panthers’ typically loaded rosters, but when he got his chance as a senior he made the most of it. He logged 90 tackles, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles on defense, and caught 20 passes for 447 yards and six TDs as a wide receiver. Hudson chose Wisconsin over offers from Georgia and Missouri and enrolled early in January 2014.

Recruiting Rankings: Hudson was given two stars by 247 and Rivals, while Scout and ESPN gave him three stars.
Projected Playing Time: Unless he has a spectacular fall camp, Austin will have a hard time getting regular action in the USF secondary. However, he has a lot of experience on special teams in high school and with the Badgers, making that his most likely route to playing time this season.

Fun Fact: Earlier in the countdown, we mentioned Marquez Valdes-Scantling could become the first USF football player to ever play for and against the Bulls in a college career. Actually, he’s in a race with Hudson to get on the field this year and set that record, because Hudson played against USF in Madison in 2014. With MVS listed as a starting wide receiver and Hudson potentially being on the kick coverage team, It may literally come down to whether USF or Towson receives the opening kickoff on September 3.
