USF Women’s Soccer picked up a strong road win on Sunday as they defeated SMU 1-0 to move to 3-1 in conference play. SMU came into the game ranked #22 in the United Coaches Soccer Poll after a 7-2-1 start to their season.

There wasn’t much doing for either team in the first half but USF continued to create chances and opportunities as the Bulls outshot the Mustangs 8-4, forcing two saves by SMU.

However, it didn’t take long for the Green and Gold to find the back of the net in the second half. Evelyne Viens continues to shine this season as she scored off an assist by junior Katie Kitchings in the 53rd minute. Viens now has 12 goals on the season and continues to add to her historic career.

Senior Aubrey Megrath and sophomore Sydny Nasello kept their offensive firepower going with Viens as the trio combined for 14-of-17 shots as the Bulls outshot the Mustangs 17-10 with a 6-2 shots on goal edge.

Sophomore Sydney Martinez got the start in net for USF and collected two saves, helping keep the Mustangs off the board for a clean sheet.

The Bulls will continue conference play on Thursday, October 17th as they take on UConn.
