As Tampa Bay football fans now, this weekend involves a big game where a famous figure will play a game against a team he led for many, many years. You know the one I mean:
Jim Leavitt will coach against the South Florida Bulls. He is SMU’s current defensive coordinator.
As far as I know, this is the first time a USF head coach has later coached against USF. Willie Taggart was the head coach of Western Kentucky in 2010 before he became the USF coach. And I’m sure a lot of assistants have changed sidelines. But never a head coach. This was supposed to happen in 2020, when USF was scheduled to play FAU, which had Taggart as head coach and Leavitt as their DC. But this game never took place. SMU hired Leavitt away from Boca Raton before this season, so here we are today. By the way, Jim Leavitt will turn 65 years old this season.
