In The Price is Right fan lingo, “El Skunko” refers to a show in which all six games are lost, and nobody wins a showcase due to both contestants overbidding.
We almost had our own El Skunko this week, due to widespread losing. As late as 10:30 PM Eastern time Saturday night, everyone who placed a fake bet this week was in the red. Many of them extremely so. But late-night parlay wins pushed two players into the positive:
It was a brutal week. Only jrjs, HerdCountry941, GaryStephen, Danj725, and Julmisteforheisman lost 100 units or less this week. Seven players lost every single bet (and an eighth won only one side of an attempted split). But this will be a huge boon for those two players in the point standings, which are now:
These standings also include a correction from Week 8: ElliotMoore has 1 more point than last week, and HerdCountry941 has 1 less. This is because I failed to manually enter one of ElliotMoore’s bets into the tracking system. That bet won, which gave him a higher money total for Week 8, which in turn gave him moved him up one place in the Week 8 point standings, at HerdCountry941’s expense.
This also impacted the season-long money totals, which are now:
|User||Total||Pending Futures||Grand Total Excluding Futures|
You can bet up to 25% of your stack in a week, which means you can lose 25% of your stack in a week. The mighty bullsonparade96 did exactly this, losing a massive 1502.94 units. Speruche and ULhothot also took losses over the default maximum of 250 units. As a result, the race is much more tightly packed than it was a week ago, though BOP still has a huge lead from his 4011-unit Louisiana-Monroe win a couple weeks ago.
camweed12 and McIntyre2K7 are now below 250 Ų total, and can bet their remaining bankroll on one bet if they wish to.
Here is the short list of big wins this week:
|Danj725||Georgia -14.0 points over Florida; Wake Forest -16.5 points over Duke (WIN,WIN)||Georgia 34-7; Wake Forest 45-7||50.00||WIN||130.00|
|dsidwell31||Over 61.5 points in the Southern Methodist-Houston game; Houston -1.0 points over Southern Methodist (WIN,WIN)||Houston 44-37; Houston 44-37||50.00||WIN||130.00|
|briank19||California +1.5 points over Oregon State; Notre Dame -3.5 points over North Carolina (WIN,WIN)||California 39-25; Notre Dame 44-34||43.99||WIN||114.37|
|ElliotMoore||Central Florida -10.5 points over Temple; Clemson -10.0 points over Florida State (WIN,PUSH)||Central Florida 49-7; Clemson 30-20||100.00||WIN||100.00|
|briank19||Utah State -6.5 points over Hawaii; Over 62.5 points in the Southern Methodist-Houston game (WIN,WIN)||Utah State 51-31; Houston 44-37||35.84||WIN||93.18|
|Danj725||Central Florida -10.5 points over Temple; Over 51.5 points in the Central Florida-Temple game (WIN,WIN)||Central Florida 49-7; Central Florida 49-7||25.00||WIN||65.00|
|GaryStephen||Auburn +1.0 points over Mississippi||Auburn 31-20||55.00||WIN||50.00|
In addition to the pulling the Bank Error In Your Favor card this week, ElliotMoore was also the biggest beneficiary of the Clemson-Florida State ending:
This nonsense turned a 100-Ų parlay loss into a partial win. HerdCountry941 also had a small gain from this play, as made the over 54 hit.
And hey, people are making LOL bets! Let’s look at all of them:
|briank19||Kansas +2500.0 money line to beat Oklahoma State||Oklahoma State 55-3||1.01||LOSS||-1.01|
|briank19||Massachusetts +3500.0 money line to beat Liberty||Liberty 62-17||1.01||LOSS||-1.01|
|ElliotMoore||Michigan State +175.0 money line to beat Michigan||Michigan State 37-33||1.01||WIN||1.77|
|GaryStephen||Kansas +2500.0 money line to beat Oklahoma State||Oklahoma State 55-3||1.01||LOSS||-1.01|
|GaryStephen||Nevada-Las Vegas +890.0 money line to beat Nevada||Nevada 51-20||1.01||LOSS||-1.01|
I interpret these as “LOL, I expect this bet to win.” As in, two players gave Kansas a better than 25-to-1 chance of beating Oklahoma State. And if Liberty can lose to Louisiana-Monroe, why not UMass? If there’s some other intention here, let me know in the comments.
Tuesday night MACtion and the CFB playoff rankings start this week. I can’t wait to see how they explain ranking Oklahoma ahead of Cincinnati because of superior “game control.”
Auburn-Texas A&M is the only likely matchup of Top 25 teams in Week 10. In the AAC, Houston might be ranked when they visit USF next week. SMU, who might lose their ranking from the same game, is at Memphis. Cincinnati will definitely be ranked when they return home to play Tulsa. Ditto Notre Dame, who hosts Navy. The other two AAC games are Temple-East Carolina and Tulane-Central Florida.
