#87 WR Rodney Adams
Sophomore, 6'1", 180 lbs.
Stats in 2013: Appeared in eight games as a true freshman at Toledo, but was not used heavily. He picked up only two catches for 15 yards on the season and ran the ball once for five yards.
Spot on 2014 Depth Chart: Not listed on Toledo's pre-season depth chart, but was likely fourth or fifth string and on special teams duty.
How Did He Come To USF: Adams came out of Lakewood High School in St Pete and was originally committed to the Florida Gators, but de-committed after hearing from his doctor that he may have a hole in his heart and would likely have to sit out his senior year season. There was also speculation that he did not have the grades to make it in. His health issues evidently cleared up because he did end up playing his senior season and gained over 1,200 all purpose yards. He later committed to Toledo, but his stay there was anything but ideal. After getting little playing time all year, his mother passed away in a car crash in November. Adams then announced he will be transferring to USF to be closer to his family and will be eligible to play immediately via the NCAA hardship waiver, which allows players to transfer immediately following the death of an immediate family member.
Recruiting Ratings: Scout and Rivals both gave him three stars, but ESPN and 247 gave him four. Rivals and ESPN ranked him at 53 and 54 respectively among receivers, but 247 was fond of him and put him at 38.
Projected Playing Time In 2014: With Andre Davis, Chris Dunkley, and Deonte Welch expected to lead the receiving corps in their senior seasons, I wouldn't expect a whole lot from Adams. Once we lose all those guy next year, however, I would expect Adams to contribute heavily.
Fun Fact: Adams is only one of two players on the current roster from St Pete. The other? Redshirt freshman fullback Auggie Sanchez.
