Stampeding The 2014 USF Football Roster - #83 WR Deonte Welch

Will he step up in his senior season?

Al Messerschmidt

#83 WR Deonte Welch

Senior, 6'0", 213 lbs.

Stats in 2013: Appeared in 11 games, started four. Caught just eight balls all season for 143 yards and no touchdowns.

Spot on 2013 Depth Chart: Listed as #2 receiver in the Z spot behind Chris Dunkley.

How Did He Come To USF: From Williston High School, as part of Skip Holtz's first recruiting class in 2010. And this was really a Skip Holtz signing; Welch was committed to Arkansas, but took a campus visit after Holtz took over from Jim Leavitt and flipped to USF very late in the recruiting process.

Recruiting Rankings: ESPN, Rivals, and Scout all gave him three stars as an athlete.

Projected Playing Time In 2014: Not sure what to expect from him. He will most likely occupy the same spot on the depth chart he had last season and play a similar role, but as he showed in his first season playing for USF (2011 where he had the second most receiving yards on the team with 433) he has the ability to step up and take on a bigger role. Since that season, however, his stats have decreased every year.

Fun Fact: Scored a touchdown against Louisville on a trick play thrown by Demetris Murray in 2011.
